Milford vs Loxwood Whites
QTR 1 – Milford 0 Loxwood Whites 0
The whites traveled to the lovely setting of St.Dominics for a friendly with Milford. Numbers were slightly down however spirits were high within the team as the lads looked to run off the excesses of Xmas/New Year Pints, Pies, Cheese, Processco, G&Ts and Haribos.
The Whites lined up for the first quarter with Chris in goal and a well drilled team who all knew their positions. The game started with fast and furious with Jody playing some good distribution out to Cosmo. Milford responded strongly and immediately Kelsey was deployed with some last ditch tackling in central defence. The local home support was extremely vocal with screams of “SHOOOOOOOOOT!”
Cosmo ran up the right on a mazey run but was thwarted by one their number 34s. Number 34 wasn’t phased by announcements over the tanoy had double parked his Ford Cortina across a spectators car in the car park.
Ben was strong in midfield and broke on a couple of occasions but was a little wild with his shooting. The ref was also wild with his whistle blowing and insisted on pacing 10 yards which took him 3/4s down the length of the pitch.
The whites continued to endeavor and played tidy football with some nice through balls but it wasn’t quite landing at the feet of the players and was starting to feel like it could be “one of those days”.
There was little trouble of Milford scoring. Chris looked strong in goal and Kelsey and Angus toiled in defence playing a very solid back 2 defensive game.
Score remained at 0-0 until the quarter end and the boys were happy to get the rest.
QTR 2 – Milford 1 Loxwood Whites 0
A change of line-up and the sensational January loan signing from the blacks Charlie Kane made his debut for the Whites. Marco went in goal and the game started very strongly for the Whites. Charlie immediately applied himself and in the first couple of minutes of play had a good cross blocked and played a nice corner that just missed the heads of the White attackers.
Cosmo moved back into defence and applied some no nonsense clearances. Jody continued to link and command from the centre of midfield with nice, sensible play. Jody had a blocked shot and Cosmo dizzied the defence again as he waltzed through 2 defenders to poke the ball just wide. Another corner delivered from Charlie – this time it nearly sailed in but it hit the stantion.
Chris, now outfield, played strongly up the left hand side. Milford came back and a looping cross sailed over Marco and just wide – never in doubt, well left Marco!!!!
The attacking continued, Cosmo was strong and Ben had a shot just wide. Milford again recovered and another looping cross sailed over Marco but this time the luck wasn’t with him and Charlie slid in to try and hook it off the line but only succeeded in poking it into the back of the net. That is one way to get on the score sheet I guess!
The boys huffed and puffed but their effort wasn’t to be rewarded and QTR2 finished at 0-1
QTR 3 – Milford 3 Loxwood Whites 0
Game 3 was to be the turning point and decisive Qtr of the morning. Chris started strong in defence and Charlie pressed at the other end to win the ball to deliver a cross that Cosmo couldn’t quite get on the end of. Charlie was now playing a slightly deeper role and his next involvement was to play the ball to Jody who had a shot well saved.
The team dilly dallied at the back a little bit and the indecisiveness created unnecessary pressure. Willem covered well but the blue pressure continued with the balling zipping around like a pinball and resulted in a Milford corner. Marco saved well with his midriff but the first goal of the game came as Willem and Jody decided to tackle each other and Milford pounced to score.
Milford piled the pressure and with heads starting to drop the next goal came very quickly as number 11 broke clean through and pushed the ball past a helpless keeper.
Angus continued to do his best and made a decisive clearance to put the ball out of play. However at the death a long range shot from the edge of the area found itself into the back of the net for to make it 3-0 to Milford in the 3rd QTR of play.
QTR 4 – Milford 1 Loxwood Whites 2
A pep talk was needed. A talk to cheer them up from Andy and probably a talk from Pep Guardiola who of helped too! That said, something worked!
Chris was re-installed back in goal and demonstrated a safe pair of hands right from the off. Ben played a lovely through ball from midfield and finally it all came together as Jody calmly advance towards the keeper and neatly lifted it over the keeper to calmly score – was the come back on?
Angus was tough tackling and Jody won a corner. A clear handball by Milford was missed by the keeper as Charlie continued to deliver well placed corners. Jody was again denied by the keeper to get his second and then the blues for back into it as they broke in numbers. With the Whites struggling to get back they were outnumbered and number 27 slotted the ball easily into an empty net.
Angus cleared and Kelsey was very strong in maintaining the ball he moved the ball onto Charlie who calmly scored with his left foot through the legs of the keeper. Two nice goals had been score by Loxwood to being some respectability to the score however the final whistle went for a final score of Milford 5 Loxwood Whites 2.
Milford had simply taken their chances and the balance of play had not reflected this type of scoreline.
Kelsey was deservedly selected as the Parents Player of the Game…….
