Whites Tournament Report (Andy Leete)
The Whites commenced their 2018/19 season at the Ewhurst tournament coming up against some old foes from the Rudgwick tournament plus some new ones. The Whites this time were determined to put the disappointments of the Rudgwick tournament behind them and showed a steely determination right from the off shrugging off the exploits of their pre season tour to Ibiza :-)
A familiar face in an unfamiliar place between the sticks saw Chris show some excellent early season form with a string of excellent saves.A 2-0 defeat first up to Ewhurst was extremely harsh on the Whites with just a couple of lapses right at the end costing the Whites any hopes of a win.
Another tightly contested encounter followed against Cranleigh, Angus and Cosmo solid at the back, Big Ben making those familiar surging runs and supplying the ammunition to the ever willing Jody up front. Willem and Luc working extremely hard to keep their opponents at arms length. Chances were few and far between and a very deserved 0-0 draw showed the steely resolve of the improving Whites.
Up next Rudgwick and the Whites fell behind early to a very unlucky rebound back off the post onto keeper Chris and into the net. Undeterred the Whites surged into action with 'action man' Raff pulling the strings in midfield the Whites were soon creating thier own chances. Big Ben picking up the ball beating a couple of opponents before supplying the killer pass to Jody who ran on to rifle home a well deserved equaliser send the travelling fans into raptures ! Despite numerous chances the Whites could not find the winner they surely deserved.
A semi final play off against one of the Ewhurst sides (sorry cant recall which one) followed. A hard fought closely contested encounter and the two sides were unable to break the deadlock by the end of normal and extra time. A nervy penalty shoot out followed with both goalkeepers making some unbelievable saves, sudden death followed with Whites hearts finally broken.
The last play off game saw the Whites come up against Ewhurst Rams this time, despite the tiring limbs for both sides the Whites dug deep and gave an excellent account of themselves with another closely fought contest with chances few an far between. The final whistle eventually came with the Whites coming out with another very respectable 0-0 draw.
An extremely encouraging start to the new season and the Whites should be proud of their performances at such an early stage in the season with just a couple of training sessions under their belt.

Blacks Tournament Report (Vinnie Jenkinson)
Blacks 0 Onslow 0
A very tight affair between 2 well matched teams. Loxwood had their 2 new signings Sebby and Kelsey in the squad and both acquitted theirselves well. The Blacks has the better chances with Cam and William going close but with no luck. Onslow had a one on one in the last couple of minutes but a good save by Harry J kept them at bay.
Blacks 2 Ewhurst Cheetahs 1
Best display of the day in my opinion. Blacks bossed the majority of the game with Harry J and the Smith brothers looking good in the middle of the park. Oscar smashed in the much deserved first goal after a goal mouth scramble before Kelsey made a great save with his foot from a one on one. The Cheetahs equalised soon after before Loxwood scored the winner after Harry J played a lovely through ball to Harry S who slotted passed their keeper.
Blacks 0 Ewhurst All stars 1
Another close game with Sam and William having great games and linking up well. The game was won in the last second after the All Stars best player danced passed the Loxwood defence before placing it in the bottom corner.
Semi Final - Blacks 2 Ewhurst All Stars 2 (Ewhurst win 3-2 on pens)
A thrilling semi final resulted in Loxwood losing in the worst way possible. Ewhurst started the better team and took the lead after a good finish from the edge of the area. Loxwood then stepped on the gas and scored 2 quick goals. Cam scored after a lovely pass from William and then Kelsey scored his first game for the club after running through onto a quick throw by Sam and smashing it into the bottom corner. Loxwood defended for their lives but Ewhurst equalised in the dying seconds direct from a corner. Ewhurst scored all of their penalties with Loxwood missing one. Great game!
3rd/4th place game - Blacks 0 Rudgwick 1
Loxwood were very leggy after their 4 games and it was a late goal that sealed the Rudgwick win. Again The Blacks had chances in the game but just couldn’t score the goal they deserved.
All in all a good tournament with the boys putting the tactics that Paul is teaching them into practise
