Marco Vitesse
On a drizzle-filled morning, U12 training was taken by Sgt Major Vinnie, Simon & Marco whilst Coach Paul was tan-topping in Portugal (no he was definitely working, there's no way he would miss footy for anything) and Coach Andy was tanning himself in the rain in Devon.
Sgt Major Jenkinson started the session with his SAS fitness drills, nasty stuff, not for the faint-hearted. The supportive parents on the sidelines were offered the opportunity to join in however it it was obvious that somewhere in the Covid-19 guidance from the FA that parents shouldn't be exposing themselves to this level of risk or exertion!
This was followed by Marco's bemusing "Triangle Drills". Trying to instill crisp, accurate passing. "If we control our passing, we control the game", (the theory is sound at least). Then onto a match with both Simon & Vinnie instructing various tactics to the mob.

Lots of scrambling, scuffing, yelling and even some football at times followed! Total confusion in the first phase - very difficult to tell who was on who's side. Simon the mastermind came up with answer, "Let's play whites against other colours!", this is the sort of genius all clubs need, while the rest of us couldn't quite work out what the problem was, Simon spotted it, sorted it. He's not just a pretty face - in fact he is not even a pretty face!
The 2nd half was much better, more control, better passing and communication. Some great skills from Cody. Pace and goals from Jody with Raffy holding the defensive line and barking orders at his team mates. However, Man-of-the-Match went to Cam, he looked assured, worked the hardest all over pitch, blocking a shot with his testicles - ("that's show business" was the encouragement from his father) , and then directly followed by another shot which he deflected with his back this time, presumably he preferred the latter approach, (he's a fast learner). The grand finale was as he left his trademark goal-from-halfway stamp on the game, beautiful. Enough to make Matt LeTissier cry!
It was great to see the kids running around having fun, that's what it's all about.
