Both the Lions and Tigers are in cup action this Saturday with the Lions drawn away to Ashington and the Tigers at home to Horsley.
The LIONS have trained and prepared well this week in the build up to the match and are looking forward to playing in the cup for the first time since reaching the cup final last April. Ashington versus Loxwood matches often throw up lots of goals so the fans are sure to be in for a treat tomorrow.
Tomorrow's Squad......Eron, Magnus, Fraser, Rory, Joe B, Joe S, Eddie, Ben, Harry, Freddie, Hamish, Will, Jack.
MEMORY LANE: The last time Loxwood visited Ashington saw a thriller. Ashington took an early lead only for Hamish to dance round 2 players on the edge of the D before curling a right footed shot beyond the keeper. Ashington responded with 2 goals either side of HT, only for Joe B to rifle in a shot from the edge of the box with 15 to go. Rory then stepped up to score his first Lions goal with a shot across the keeper to equalise with only 5 minutes remaining. In the last minute Hamish collected a throw in from the right hand side, stepped across a defender 5 yards outside the box, only to be caught by a trailing leg. He stumbled but forced a pass to Joe who carried the ball forward to shoot but his shot was closed down. We then witnessed the best piece of refereeing we have seen in the HDYFL, as the referee pulled play back for a free-kick for the original foul...
Jack stood over the ball, the keeper frantically waving his wall to the right. The screech of the ref's whistle. Silence. 3 steps, the ball arches over the wall, dips low into the left hand corner. 4-3 Loxwood; a knee-slide then Jack smothered by delirious teammates . Roll on tomorrow.
The TIGERS have a full squad tomorrow and very excitingly new signing Harry C will make his full debut for the club. Tom L and Toby C did great last week for the Lions and hopefully they will carry that momentum into tomorrow's cup match.
Tomorrow's squad.....Louis, George L, Tom P, Joshua, Toby N, Tom L, Toby C, Ollie, Harry C, Theo.
A strange occurrence happened at the TIGERS' fitness training this week, as players reported they saw a figure that may have been coach Dean appearing at training very unusually dressed in smart slacks and a blazer rather than the normal shorts, tracksuit top and boots. As the boys squinted and shielded their eyes from the floodlights, to focus on the catwalk figure striding across towards them, Eron shouted, "hey boys Zinedine Zidane's here to train us!"
Just like Dean, Zizou is known for his effortless, cool style...so was as it actually Zinedine himself, or was it Dean? It could have been ZZ. He's available and rumours persist he might come to England to manage United or Loxwood!
Or was it Dean's brilliant cup week motivational tactics to inspire the boys with the spirit of the French genius and 3 time Champions' League winner? Either way we say ALLEZ LES TIGRES! Just not the one in the Ryder Cup this weekend!
