Hawks Hit Magpies
A massively changed Loxwood Tigers side were brushed aside by Guildford Saints Hawks in a fine display of passing football and goal scoring prowess. Facing the current best side in the league and with five regulars side-lined, the Magpies started with five players from their U13 squad, which proved a baptism of fire. Despite going a goal down in the opening few minutes, Loxwood defended well and Toby Nicholls made some fine saves to frustrate the Hawks attack. Harry Bubb, Will Dixon, Theo Rawlins and Daniel Badger all did well to stave off the flurries of attacking football, while Loxwood struggled to push forward and reduce the pressure. The loss of Louis Horsley proved decisive in the closing ten minutes of the first half, with late goals seeing the Magpies go into the break 5 - 0 down.
In the second half, the resolute defending of the first period was quickly overcome. Even with the addition of a twelfth player, the strength of Guildford's midfield, wingers and strikers could not be held back and the goals flowed remorselessly. Great credit must go to the Hawks for their winning mentality, but equally their spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, which was evident from their management and players throughout the match.
Despite the result, the Loxwood boys showed great spirit, never gave up and held their heads high. The U13s in particular, playing with unknown team mates and under very difficult circumstances, were a credit to the club, their coach and parents.
Team: Toby Nicholls, Theo Rawlins, Will Dixon, Harry Bubb, Daniel Badger, Tom Pearce, Louis Horsley, Jack Woodage, Harry Comber, Harry Hunter, Toby Chandler, Will Percy.
MOM: Toby Nicholls and Harry Bubb (first ever joint Man of the Match this week. If it wasn't for both players, the scoreline could have been worse!)
