Football is a game full of emotion and occasionally something happens that makes the hairs stand up. Today’s game produced one of the best goals I have seen from this team. Toby Chandler ran from deep, clearly signalled where he wanted it, Freddie Phillips fed a perfectly weighted pass, Toby ran on, took a few touches into the boxes and slotted past the keeper. Absolutely everything you want to see in football in one move.
So proud of the whole team today. Louis showed his versatility with a very assured performance in goal. The best I have seen from Toby Nicholls at right back, a commanding performance by Tom Lillywhite at centre back and solid from George Lillywhite at left back. Ollie Zeffert was immense in the holding role, breaking up play and covering at centre back. Toby Chandler did well in the unfamiliar role in an advanced midfield position and I was absolutely delighted for him to grab a goal. Freddie and Hamish shared the left wing position and made massive contributions. Hamish got a hat trick, scoring with two free kicks and a well taken left foot effort in the second half. Freddie, bagged a goal and played the telling pass for Toby to get the goal of the game. Tom Pearce worked hard, made some important challenges on right midfield and young Cameron Ramsay was incredible in the lone striker role. Unbelievable to think that an U10 could lead the line against some big U13s and hold his own, and get so close to grabbing a goal!
What a great pre-season warm up and hopefully gives the boys a lift going into the new season.
