They say momentum is a big thing in football - well after this dominant performance there certainly should be some confidence going forward for the in-form Magpies. This was a cup game against Ewhurst Tigers and Loxwood U12s were captained for this one by in-form striker Charlie, who duly led his side to a resounding 10 (Ten) - 1 win, a triple hat-trick and a fine debut performance. Here's how the game went ....
The game started with Loxwood showing the focus and composure missing in recent games, and early on Jack capitalised on some Ewhurst hesitancy at the back and made it 1-0. Ewhurst then equalised with a well-taken goal to draw level, before Tom drove in a spectacular effort from outside the box, and then to follow it up with another fine strike to make it 3-1 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter continued in the same vein with Loxwood showing great aggression to win those 50/50 challenges and grab hold of the loose ball. Although Ewhurst drove forward when they could, the back 3 of Liam, Fraser and debutant Daniel looked assured at the back and let very little through. Then a great move involving Daniel, Charlie and Ethan set Will free down the wing, and after some lovely footwork he lost his marker and followed with a calm finish beneath the opposing goalie. Jack then followed this up with some great pressing to win the ball high up the pitch and coolly slotted the ball home to make it 5-1. Finally, following some lovely interplay with Nathan, Jack and Charlie the ball fell to Tom, who flicked the ball up and then volleyed the ball to lob over the opposing keeper for his hat-trick. Lovely!!
So at half time, although the score was 6-1 the message was "we have won nothing yet", to keep up with the desire and tempo, and to try to win the final two quarters. And so the third quarter started, and here came the Hamish show!! He scored his first after being released by Coalan and some nice hold up play from Ethan to drive the ball home. Nice! His second followed a long ball from Liam and some aggressive running with the ball and a drive so strong the ball got stuck in the net at the back of the stanchion. Pick that one out!! And his hat-trick came after he beat the offside trap after being released by Fraser and he coolly finished to make it 9-1 and a great hat-trick. Fab-u-lous!!
Finally, not be outdone Jack made it 10-1 on the final whistle after some more clever footwork and a fine finish for his very own hat-trick. Phew!!
What a great result and shows that we can be a match for anyone with that combination of focus, desire and composure. Well done everyone !!
A special mention to debutant Daniel who slotted in really nicely and added some bravery and athleticism to the side.
Well done Dan!! ...... (by the way we don't win 10-1 every week!!!).
