Saturday 3rd October Loxwood Magpies 2 v 0 Milford Typhoons
Squad : Kinley, Charlie C, Bubba, Declan, Alex, Liam, Chris, Will, Nathan, Neo, Tom, Hamish, Harry P
Goals : Tom (2)
This was another battling but well-deserved win in rainy conditions against one of the tougher opponents in the league. Games against Milford are always tight affairs and this was no different.
The whites started brightly with some good chances falling to Neo who was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet on a couple of occasions Towards the end of the first half the pressure bore fruit as the magpies did take the lead when following some good approach play the ball fell to Tom who scored with a glorious chip over the keeper's head into the far corner.
But danger was never far away, and although the magpies had the lion's share of possession, Milford's twin strike force posed a constant threat, and they they nearly broke through before half time only for Bubba to clear off the line with a last-gasp header. The first half ended closed with the whites on top, and just before the half time whistle Tom beat the offside trap and took the ball around the keeper and toppled over in the area, but no penalty was given and the ref waved away any protests.
Onto the second half and more of the same with Chris finding some nice pockets behind the front two and threading through some lovely though balls. The magpies continued with energy and commitment and everyone was winning their 50/50 challenges, but that extra goal was needed to make the game safe, and midway through the second half it came following Tom's fabulous strike from outside the area with a great finish to effectively seal the game.
In summary this was a real team performance with the boys in control of the game throughout and everyone playing well, with the impressive thing being how everyone in the team won their own individual battles. Man of the match this week goes to Tom as ultimately his two strikes were the difference between the sides - Well done Mr. Bonney !!!!
