So the season started in earnest on Saturday 15th September as we had our opener away to Dorkinians.
This was a new ground for us and with a large pitch and full size goals the scene was set for a large scoring game.
With a squad of 11 ready for an epic encounter both teams showed attacking verve. We took the lead through a great finish from Liam after great work on the wing by Hamish. This was shortly followed by some great pressing by Charlie nicking the ball from the opposition goalie to make it 2-0. Some sustained pressure followed before an own goal from Nathan had the tie poised at 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. After this Loxwood really did pull away with some great defence marshalled by Harry, ably assisted by Zac and Colan, and boy did we hit them on the break with some great hold up play from Ethan and attacking moves from Charlie and Will yielding goals from Hamish (3), Liam and Jack giving a healthy half time lead of 7-1.
The coaches message at half time was 'we have won nothing yet - and some sustained pressure from the home side yielded 2 more goals. Was a comeback on at 7-3?? A cracking save from Tom when on a 1 on 1 proved a turning point as Nathan fed on a lose ball up front to make it 8-3, and although two more goals were conceded from some very tired legs, Nathan once again provided a fine finish at the end of the game rifling the ball home to make it 9-5.
Whew what a game!!!
Well done everyone, in particular to Hamish for his hattrick and to Colan for his full debut.
Special mention to Tom who was feeling very rough and could hardly run, but still gave off an outstanding performance in goal. Good effort!!
