Loxwood 1 v 2 Ewhurst Rams
Team: Jack, Fraser, Charlie Davies, Ethan, Rowan, Tom, Charlie D’Aoust, Nathan, Liam, Neo, Coalan
Scorer : Jack (Pen)
Ewhurst came to the Great Common ground needing just a point to be crowned champions, although this season they have proved a different proposition to recent seasons where they have been unbeatable. However, Loxwood beat them in a tight 5-4 encounter in February, and the Rams came seeking revenge with a full squad to choose from.
The game ebbed and flowed with chances for both sides until Ewhurst took the lead with a ‘worldie’ strike from outside the box. Ewhurst then went on to double their lead into the second half, before Loxwood began to grow in confidence after some near misses.
Then Charlie Davies replaced Neo in goal who went up top and his strength and physicality unnerved the usually composed Ewhurst defence. Loxwood missed a gilt edged opportunity following a chipped in free kick by Liam but it missed the touch needed by two players at the far post. Then, after some good pressure, Loxwood won a corner and after a scramble in the box there was a handball and a penalty which was converted by Jack. The last 5 minutes was frantic end-to-end stuff but Ewhurst ended up winners.
This was another strong performance against the strongest team in the league, showing that the Magpies have really matured through the season and are now a match for anyone.
