A game against one of the division 1 leaders can be a daunting prospect but on this occasion Loxwood put out a really good showing and were only narrowly defeated against Dorking Wanderers. The game started at a frenetic pace with keeper captain Neo doing a great job of commanding the back three of Fraser, Liam and Zach to keep the opposition to few chances. Then a big long kick from Neo put the Dorking defenders on the back foot and Hamish using all his pace and a good deal of bravery slotted the ball home past the opposition keeper to put the Magpies 1-0 up!!!,, Dorking then continued to press with some lovely passing and movement and equalised just before the break to leave the first quarter at 1-1.
During the second quarter the game began to follow a pattern of Dorking dominating possession from the back and trying to break down Loxwood's resolute defence. Loxwood's midfield of Tom, Jack, Will and debutant Paddy did a great job of breaking up Dorking's moves with some aggressive pressing and the second quarter finished goalless.
The third quarter saw a similar pattern but Loxwood did create chances with Nathan just missing a connection from a cross following a great break from the Magpies, after good work from Ethan and Charlie. The third quarter again finished goalless but Loxwood's energy and stamina were starting to wane.
Into the fourth quarter and we are still at 1-1. Could the Magpies hold out?
Well with around 10 minutes to go Dorking struck with a nice lob from a striker beating Neo. Loxwood came out fighting for the last few minutes with Will creating a good chance for Hamish after some good play from Paddy but the Dorking keeper saved. With Loxwood pushing forward, the keeper immediately released Dorking's strike force who struck home with only seconds to go, making the final score 3-1.
A great effort all round and this result felt more like a win with the commitment and drive shown by everyone. Well done boys - it'll come!!!
Special mention to Paddy with his debut for Loxwood. Great performance with lots of energy and drive!! Welcome to Loxwood Paddy!!!
