Our second league game of the season was a home fixture against Milford Pumas Typhoons.
The game was touch-and-go through the week as Loxwood were missing several key players and so were unsure we'd even be able to field a team, and so we are super grateful for the support of the u11s jets who provided us with loanees Ben ‘Sully’ Sullivan and Harry Nugent.
So the game kicked off in bright and, aptly given the name of the opposition, breezy conditions.
A frantic closely-fought first quarter saw a tight game with few chances. Loxwood's defence of Zac, Nathan and the composed Tom, were well-marshalled by the vocal Neo to keep opposition chances to a minimum. However, the ball broke in the box just before the whistle and Milford's striker finished coolly to give the away team a first quarter lead of 1-0. In the second quarter, Loxwood came more into the game with Will, u11 loanee Ben and Liam creating some nice passing moves, and after some pressure Charlie followed up his own strike with a composed finish to make it 1-1 at half time.
The third quarter was again very competitive but with Milford taking more control. Again, Loxwood defended resolutely with some notable saves from Neo, great terrier-like tackling from Coalan and Zach, and an effective offside trap controlled by Tom. The magpies looked dangerous on the break though with clever hold up play by Ethan feeding runners Harry and Will, however it was Milford nicked a goal to go into the last quarter 2-1 up.
The last quarter was a frantic affair with Loxwood pushing forward for the equaliser and with Tom moving further and further up the pitch with an increasingly impressive display. The pressure was growing, and following some great build-up play between Tom, Liam, Charlie and Ethan released Nathan on the wing and his first time cross just eluded Will for the equaliser.
With the clock ticking and Milford soaking up the pressure the away team then broke away again in the final few minutes to beat the offside trap for the final goal to finish 3-1 winners.
Overall it was a great, competitive game with some super football on display from both sides. Well done everyone for a committed and resolute performance!!!
Thanks once again go to Harry and Ben from the u11s and for their coaches for helping us out.
