Loxwood 1 v 1 Dorking Wanderers
Team: Charlie D’Aoust, Will, Coalan, Rowan, Nathan, Tom, Liam, Charlie Davies, Ethan, Jack, Zach.
Scorer: Rowan
Dorking remained the only team in the top flight that the Magpies haven’t beaten, and although the Whites went into this one on the back of 3 straight defeats, they have been looking more and more confident and assured for some weeks now, going consistently head-to-head with the best that South Surrey can offer.
There has been a trend with this fixture, after Dorking ran out 4-1 winners in October, 3-1 winners in November and then 2-1 winners in March. We have been getting closer and closer to Dorking’s high standards and what the red and white stripes offer in technical ability is now matched with the passion, commitment and game management by the whites. So it was no surprise really that Loxwood held their own against the team which finished second in the league.
In terms of the game itself, Loxwood went 1-0 up thanks to a great finish by Rowan after he got round the back of the Dorking defence. The Magpies couldn’t hold out though after a mix up in communication at the back with the ball falling to a Dorking player who slotted home.
So the game finished 1-1, but this showed that the improving trend is certainly there and on another day the game could have been won by Loxwood. Perhaps that 'day' will be the cup final in 2 weeks time, and certainly this result and performance will give the whites the confidence they need for the big game.
Come on you Magpies!!
