Saturday October 12th, 2019 - Loxwood 2 v 2 Ewhurst
Saturday's opposition have been a dominant force in the league for many years, but the momentum has changed over the last year and so this was an even encounter which with some better finishing the whites could easily have won.
Loxwood had 3 ex-Ewhurst players in the matchday squad, with Ewhurst themselves fielding 2 ex-Loxwood stars in their line up so there was a lot at stake for the bragging rights with this one!!
The game started at a frantic pace with Gethin just missing a good chance when he got round the back of the Ewhurst defence using his pace to good effect.
Then midway through the first half, a good break down the wing by Ewhurst ended with a speculative cross-shot hitting the bar and bouncing out to a Ewhurst striker to head home from close range. Loxwood then struck back after some good work on the left hand side from Hamish, and Rowan crossed the ball for Gethin to stroke home to even the scores at 1-1.
The fast pace of the game continued and it was end-to-end stuff but just as Loxwood were beginning to get a foothold a slip at the back and the Ewhurst striker nipped to make it 2-1.
The second half didn't let up with the excitement and action with both sides having chances but after some great work by Tom and Hamish, Gethin again struck to make it 2-2.
The last few minutes saw some great action and a lovely flowing move from the back involving Liam, Tom, Hamish and Charlie saw Rowan run clear and smash the ball home. Sadly the flag was up and the goal was disallowed !! ... And then with the full time whistle moments away another break saw Tom release Hamish and his direct run to goal saw the ball go agonisingly wide of the right hand post by just a few inches.
This was a great effort and the commitment and pace from both sides made it a great watch. Make no mistake Ewhurst still have some great players so well done everyone - we are on the right track!!
Man of the Match this week could go to a number of players but the choice this week goes to Hamish for his skilful play, clever passing and his great commitment and focus. All done with a smile on his face as usual - Well done Hamish.
